Our Mission
The word “Dar” in Arabic literally means home. Accordingly, Darna means “Our Home.” Home is the place where you feel loved where you can be safe and where you can express yourself without being judged. It is a place where family and relationships grow and deepen, and it is the place that connects you with who you are. Darna aims to provide such a safe haven for the Arab community and residents of Tira and the surrounding who seek a place to talk, dream, express, reflect, engage, learn and explore. Darna provides a place to mend existing connections and build bridges to new ones. It is a place where someone can chart their own journey, help others identify their calling and path and make a difference within their community, eventually having an impact on the world one step at a time.
Our Vision
Darna was born to provide support and be a powerful shield for young people in need of a safe place to talk, dream and accomplish. We encourage and support education as an important tool for change – one that will allow our people to view the world differently and deal with life in a modern way, with wisdom and knowledge rather than hate and anger.
Darna’s primary objectives:
■ Provide an opportunity for young people to openly discuss existing issues in their personal lives and within their communities.
■ Provide mutual support and professional guidance on personal issues and challenges related to education, employment, career, personal life and national and political identity.
■ Give young people a risk-free outlet for self expression and personal development while strategically addressing social and community issues in Tira (crime, drugs, unemployment and others).
■ Supplement learning opportunities and tools and resources for positively impacting the community by creatively mapping out solutions for societal ills.
■ Help young people understand better their own identity and the identities of all the various people sharing the land in order to build bridges and create stronger healthier bonds.
■ Deliver conflict resolution skills in order to help resolve tensions and challenges within our community and across to others.
■ Empowering youth to take responsibility over their future to make their lives more meaningful and satisfactory
